Motion Put Forward by M.P. Van Kesteren is Adopted by Committee

Ottawa, Ontario - Dave Van Kesteren, Member of Parliament for Chatham-Kent-Essex, and a member of the Standing Committee on Access to Information, Privacy and Ethics, put forward a motion requesting the committee study identity theft.

Mr. Van Kesteren stated, “This study will examine the types and trends in identity theft, measures to increase consumer protection and public awareness, all of which are important to fully address this concern.”

The Committee has just concluded a review of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and submitted a report which contains several recommendations.

“It was evident during the committee’s study on PIPEDA that private identity theft is a real and growing problem, and that the Committee work toward further protecting Canadians.”

Dave Van Kesteren is also a member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology that is currently reviewing counterfeit and piracy dealing with intellectual property that pertain to trademark and copyright goods.
