Protecting Canada's Environment | April 2009 |

Dear Constituent,
Well, spring is finally here! As we watch the natural world coming back to life, I thought now would be the perfect time to let you know about what our government is doing for Canada's environment.
For example, we've created a bill that will extend the limits of our environmental regulations 100 nautical miles farther out into our arctic waters.
As northern waters become more accessible, we must do more to guard our northern shores against pollution from foreign ships.
Additionally, we're committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 20% within the next eleven years and banning bulk water exports from freshwater basins.
I've included more information below about all of these initiatives. If you have any questions or wish to share your thoughts, please never hesitate to get in touch with me.
Yours sincerely,
- Dave | |
Taking Action to Help Preserve the Environment |
The Arctic Waters Pollution Prevention Act: Canada's Northern frontier is under increasing threat from foreign encroachment. Our Conservative government has is changing the Arctic Waters Pollution Prevention Act to not only send the world the message that we're taking responsibility for our North, but also to further protect fragile northern ecosystems from abuse. Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions 20% by 2020: Our government has committed to reduce Canada's total greenhouse gas emissions by 20 percent by 2020. We will do this by working with the provinces, with the US and Europe, and by shifting towards non-emitting technologies like wind, solar, and hydro for our energy needs. Banning the Bulk Export of Water: One of Canada's greatest natural resources is our abundant fresh water. To ensure the protection of this vital resource, Prime Minister Harper's government is working to bring forward legislation to ban all bulk water transfers or exports from Canadian freshwater basins. |
