MP Van Kesteren announces $1.25 million for Erieau Fire Hall
September 03, 2009
![]() Erieau, Ontario - Today Dave Van Kesteren, Member of Parliament for Chatham-Kent-Essex, announced that the Conservative government will be investing $1,250,000.00 in Chatham-Kent’s Number Fourteen Fire Station in Erieau. The funding was made possible through the Community Adjustment Fund (CAF) a program established by the Harper government to stimulate the economies of some of the nation’s hardest hit communities. The application made by the Municipality of Chatham-Kent proposes the demolition and reconstruction of the the current building which houses the fire hall, community hall as well as the village’s library. “An upgrade to a multi-faceted building like this, in a village like Erieau will benefit everyone who lives in or visits this special close-knit community,” added Van Kesteren. “More importantly it creates jobs for our area right now.” “A new fire station in Erieau is a real priority in protecting our citizens in times of emergency,” said Mayor Randy Hope, “and that is why the municipality applied to the Community Adjustment Fund. I am very pleased that the federal government has seen the value of this project and provided funds that will help to save lives, and protect property and the environment.” This project was part of the up to $102 million investment made through the Community Adjustment Fund for 2009-2010, announced on August 27 by the Honourable Gary Goodyear, newly appointed Minister of State for the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario. Approved projects must meet the terms and conditions set out in their funding agreements. A complete list of approved projects in Southern Ontario will be made available online at www.ic.gc.ca/caf on September 10, 2009. |
