MP Responds to the Government of Canada Participating in the WTO consultations on China’s Enforcement of Intellectual Property Rights

Ottawa, Ontario - Chatham-Kent-Essex, Member of Parliament, Dave Van Kesteren who is a member of the Standing Committee on Industry, Science and Technology said, “This recent announcement coincides with a study currently being conducted by the committee on counterfeit and piracy.”

Mr. Van Kesteren also stated, “In coming years the need to enforce strict intellectual property laws will be a major priority by countries who are involved with the World Trade Organization.”

During his recent trip to China, Chinese officials told Mr. Van Kesteren, that Intellectual Property rights is becoming more of an issue because it is beginning to affect Chinese manufactories. They are committed to stronger enforcement.
