Van Kesteren Announces Dredging At Commercial Fishing Harbour In Erieau
July 25, 2006

ERIEAU – Dave Van Kesteren, Member of Parliament for Chatham-Kent--Essex, announced today on behalf of the Honourable Loyola Hearn, Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, that the federal government is funding dredging at the Rondeau commercial fishing harbour in Erieau, Ontario.

“This harbour is an important part of the Erieau community”, said Mr. Van Kesteren. “Canada’s new government is committed to providing fishermen with safe and efficient facilities.”

The harbour facilities at Rondeau consist of a 30 berth full-service commercial fishing centre, as well as a recreational marina with more than 200 berths, situated in the Village of Erieau, on the north shore of Lake Erie. The facility is located in an active zone of Lake Erie. The proposed dredging will remove fill from the harbour and increase its depth, thus completing a previous dredging effort within the commercial fishing basin.

Plans and specifications for the project are being finalized by Public Works and Government Services Canada and a tender call will follow later this summer. It is anticipated that on-site work will begin in the late summer or early fall.

This project is being undertaken by the Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Program.
