Leamington, Ontario — Dave Van Kesteren, MP for Chatham-Kent Essex, today announced that two projects in Leamington will move forward thanks to an investment of more than $735,000 from the Federal Economic Development Agency for Southern Ontario (FedDev Ontario) to stimulate local economies.
“As we continue to move forward with Canada’s economic recovery, we recognize the importance of investing in communities that have been hardest hit,” said MP Van Kesteren. “We are creating jobs today that will benefit the residents of Leamington, while providing economic stability for tomorrow.”
Mayor John Adams said of the Federal investment: “These two projects will help attract and retain visitors and shoppers. The parking lot improvements will strengthen our uptown retail business core, and the improvements at the marina will allow us to maintain our reputation as one of the finest marinas on the Great Lakes.”
The breakdown of funding is as follows:
Municipality of Leamington
Replacement of outdated marina infrastructure
$ 325,000 - Federal Investment (up to $)
Municipality of Leamington
Building of a new municipal parking lot with new combined sanitary sewer and storm sewer
$ 410,000 - Federal Investment (up to $)
These projects will be supported through the Community Adjustment Fund, a two-year, $1-billion national program aimed at addressing the short-term economic needs of communities hit hardest by the global economic recession. Approved projects must meet the terms and conditions set out in their contribution agreements.
